About Dental Loans

For higher-cost self-pay treatment, we offer dental loans. A dental loan is a financing plan built specifically for dental treatment, with lower interest than a credit card installment plan, so you can get treatment while keeping your monthly payments manageable.

How a Dental Loan Works

With a dental loan, a credit company covers the cost of treatment up front, and you repay it in monthly installments. Even if you can’t put together the full amount at once, you can still receive treatment and pay on a set schedule.

The interest rate is lower than a credit card installment plan, which makes it a particularly good option if you’d like to pay over a longer term. It does require a credit check, but the process from application to approval is smooth.

How to Apply for a Dental Loan

If you’d like to use a dental loan, just let our staff know when we go over your treatment plan. We’ll walk you through the documents you need and the credit check.

The credit check can take a few days, so we recommend applying with some time to spare before treatment begins. Depending on the result of the check, we may not be able to accommodate your request.

About the Medical Expense Tax Deduction

If your medical expenses for the year exceed a certain amount, you can claim the medical expense tax deduction on your tax return. Dental treatment costs can qualify too, so please keep your receipts somewhere safe.

Dental Treatment That Qualifies for the Deduction

Insured treatment qualifies, and so does self-pay treatment as long as it’s for a medical purpose. Implants, orthodontics, and ceramic treatment can also qualify for the deduction if you have a doctor’s statement.

That said, treatment judged to be for cosmetic purposes may not qualify for the deduction. Please check with your tax office or a tax accountant for the specifics.

How to Claim the Deduction

To claim the medical expense deduction, you need to file a tax return. Keep the receipts for medical expenses you paid during the year (January 1 to December 31) and submit them with your tax return the following year.

The receipts we issue include the information you need for the deduction. Reissuing a receipt can take some time, so please take care not to lose yours.

Travel costs can qualify for the deduction too, so we recommend keeping a record of your transportation costs for each visit.

Common Questions About Payment

Can I pay for treatment in installments?

Yes, through a dental loan. If you’d prefer to pay in installments on your credit card, you’ll need to pay the full amount with us first and then arrange the installment plan with your card company yourself. Since a dental loan carries lower interest than a credit card installment plan, we recommend it for higher-cost treatment.

Can I use an overseas credit card?

Yes, we accept VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners, and Discover. We also accept payment services widely used overseas, such as Alipay and WeChat Pay, so patients visiting from abroad can use them without worry.

Can I get an estimate for treatment?

Yes. For self-pay treatment, we provide a detailed estimate before starting. We explain the treatment and cost in full and only begin once you’re satisfied. For insured treatment, we can also give you a rough estimate of the cost, so just ask.

Can I get a receipt?

Yes, we issue a receipt for each payment. You’ll need it to claim the medical expense deduction, so please keep it somewhere safe. Reissuing a receipt can take some time, so please take care not to lose yours.

Can I change my payment method partway through treatment?

Since you pay after each individual visit, you’re free to change your payment method for any visit going forward. If you’d like to switch to a dental loan, the credit check can take some time, so please let us know promptly.

Does the payment method differ between insured and self-pay treatment?

No, the same payment methods are available for both insured and self-pay treatment. You can pay by cash, credit card, or electronic payment either way. A dental loan is only available for self-pay treatment.

Can I use a UnionPay card?

We’re sorry, but we don’t currently accept UnionPay. If you’re visiting from China, please use Alipay, WeChat Pay, or an internationally branded credit card such as VISA or Mastercard instead.

Can I split payment across multiple visits?

When treatment takes several visits, you pay after each individual visit. If you’d like to keep your monthly cost down for higher-cost self-pay treatment, we recommend a dental loan, which lets you spread the full cost over a longer repayment period.
